Our pets give us so much joy, but the death of a pet is something that all pet owners ultimately have to face. They give us unconditional love in their lifetime and a peaceful end is what we can do for them in return, to help ease them from pain and discomfort, giving them a humane and dignified passing.
I passionately believe that this should be as stress free and calm as possible and hope that you will be happy to entrust me with helping your pet make their final journey over the rainbow bridge.
I offer an at home service allowing euthanasia of your pet in an environment where they are most comfortable. I can also help you to arrange a cremation with a local and trusted service, should you want it. Forget Me Not Vets is operated by myself, Dr Sinéad Bennett MRCVS, a small animal vet with over 15 years of experience. I am based in and serve Greater Manchester and the surrounding areas.
To ensure I can offer as many appointments as possible, I now have a limited number of trusted vets who work alongside me, meaning that if I am away or unavailable, I can still offer you an appointment with someone that I trust to be there for you and your pet.
I can do remote consultations with you to help you with a quality of life assessment for your pet and help you plan their final steps. This can also be done in person.
A gentle two-step technique, this starts with gentle sedation to relax and calm your pet before euthanasia.
I can assist in providing you with a cremation service and will discuss your options at the time of the booking.
I can do evening and weekend visits where availability allows
This is what you can expect when I visit. There is no rush and I will make sure that you understand what is going to happen at each step in the process.
Before we do anything I will talk to you about your decision and answer any questions you may have. I will talk through the process so that there will be no surprises allowing you to prepare yourself.
I will give your pet a gentle sedative to help keep them calm. This is not painful and simply helps your pet ease.
Your pet will be given an anaesthetic drug. This works by slowing down the heart until it stops. Your pet doesn’t feel this happening and they gently pass on.
This is completely up to you, you can arrange things yourself, or if you know you want assistance with a cremation I can help you make the arrangements.
Once your pet has passed over the rainbow bridge there are two options available for what to do next. You can choose to have your own burial ceremony or their body can go for cremation. You may have somewhere in mind that you wish to take them, or I can help arrange for a local, trusted, independent crematorium to collect your pet. You will deal with them directly so that you have complete control.
When I was looking at setting up this service I visited a number of local crematoria to see their facilities and so that I could have confidence in any recommendation that I make to you in this regard. You can either take your pet to them or they can come to you to collect your pet and then, later, bring them back to you.
Here are some local providers I feel comfortable recommending:

The decision of when is the right time is often a difficult one to make, none of us want to wait until it’s “too late.” With this in mind, one of the services I offer is a quality-of-life visit, where I can do a remote consultation (or come to your home) and discuss your thoughts and feelings about your pet’s health, helping you to make the decision about when is the right time. I will help guide you in relation to your pet’s quality of life and I will always be completely honest with you, being an advocate for your pet.
Some people worry that a vet won’t agree with them that the time is right to say goodbye. My answer is simple, if you have decided that the time is right to say goodbye then it is. No one makes this decision on a whim and there will never be any judgement from me, only support.
Deciding to let our beloved pet go is truly the bravest decision that we ever make for them. They have been a cherished member of your family and this is the one decision that you will make for them that is truly about them and no-one else. I know that feeling of wanting to keep them forever, and it is a truly selfless moment when we decide to help ease them from any suffering or pain.
